Sightseeing in Lisbon, day 2

Was up at 9:30 and out of the door for 10 to do some sightseeing. Walked almost everywhere around Lisbon, then took the famous number 28 tram around the city. Kevin and I had to get off the tram to move a parked car stuck out too far into the road and as such stopped the tram from moving. We were sitting on the tram for ten minutes with the driver sounding his horn hoping the car's owner would hear and come back and move it. We were all told the tram wouldn't be going any further and asked to get off the tram. We did this, then decided to push the car the best we could, and it worked!! We got back on the tram and continued our scenic journey around Lisbon.

The tram was a great way to see the city--especially the old part of the town. We went so close to some houses that the walls were inches from the side of the tram!
Also took in the harbour and the unusual metal sightseeing tower that is built of steel and cast iron. In the middle of a few buildings it looks totally out of place! The view from the top was amazing though.

Had a fun day seeing the sights of Portugal. I even found and tried on a helmet for tonight's show!

Second show is tonight. I'm going to take my regular camera tonight to get a few shots. I might also watch the second half of the show from half or two thirds of the way back from the stage to take a few more  pictures of the projections.

Album with over 150 pics of  Lisbon below:

First Lisbon show: a few random notes.

So the band have new uniforms for the second half of the show! They are wearing all black with dark sunglasses and black French style beret's!!

It looks great now that the two guitarists both have black Les Pauls! Dave's other new guitar is a Rasmus. He played both of the new guitars a few times during the second half, but I have to say I didn't think the Rasmus sounded as good as his telecasters at the beginning of Run Like Hell. It just didn't sound as loud and raw! Maybe it’ll get better.

The hotel room that pops out of the wall has changed quite a bit. Its all white with no Tropicana sign, there's a cityscape lit up on the back of the wall, and there's a new “Euro” style bed in place of the old-fashioned one. From memory the chair is different too, but I could be mistaken. Roger also has a telephone prop now that he uses during the line “When I try to get through, on the telephone to you, there'll be nobody home.”

During the swirly graphics for Comfy Numb Roger now stands on the podium on the left and “freezes” for at least a minute while Dave K is playing his solo. He didn't thump the wall with his fists to crack all the bricks up, but he head-butted it tonight!!
There are a few new graphics during Run Like Hell and a few new things written on the wall. I didn't take my regular camera tonight--just my blackberry--because I just wanted to enjoy the show. And I did! I will take a few pics of the new graphics at the gig tomorrow.

Okay--so all the band are now dressed in black suits, black shirts, and ties. While they all look smart on stage, it also looks really uncomfortable to wear! There are a couple of minor changes in the first half projections but nothing huge. All the flag bearers have hard black helmets. Two of them come out to the front of the stage to throw pink on stage and then get on stage to hand Roger his coat and sunglasses. Band is very tight for the first night, but the star of the show so far is Robbie; his voice is fantastic!! He must have done some vocal practice or exercises. It sounds awesome!

No new set up on stage or visible differences about the wall for opening night. 40 minutes to showtime here in Lisbon!

So here we are again...

The last time I was in Lisbon was the start of Rogers 2002, In The Flesh tour. I flew in 3 days before the first show and was fortunate to see the rehearsals and travel to the venue in the blacked out vans with the band!  That was the start of an eight week journey around Europe sight seeing, watching shows, meeting people, and generally having fun!

Fast forward  nine years and here I am again sat in the lounge at Heathrow waiting for a flight to Lisbon for the start of the 2011 European Wall tour. On the agenda, again, is sight seeing, watching shows, meeting people, and having fun! Same old, same old!
I'm sharing a room with my friend Kevin for the next 10 days. We've done all the tours since 2000 together, and he just checked in the hotel this morning. I looked at the weather in Lisbon, and it's currently 22’C . Dave K also sent me a message telling me it's shorts weather there, so I am looking forward to getting some sun on my pale English skin!

It begins...

Pre show meet ups

Just added some pre-show meet up venues for the first few cities. Just remember that the shows in Europe don't usually start until at least 9 P.M. It would be great to meet up with people before the shows for a drink and  a chat.
