I drive to Orient point tomorrow at the end of Long Island, about an hour and forty five minutes drive, then take the Orient Point to New London car ferry, then drive out to Cape Cod for a night. Long day but should be worth it. There's no show tomorrow night so i can chill out in the evening.

I lived in New London CT before moving to FL. Nice touch taking the ferry over.
ReplyDeletehoping you enjoy your journey si. in a sense, you'll be passing through YOUR homeland and heritage...where all the bad, outlaw and rebel brits settled after leaving great britain. but you know this already.
ReplyDeletewhat you might not know is in rhode island, in the tiny town of newport, one of the first acts of rebellion against the king took place way way back in the mid 1770's. just two blocks from where i was born, the "locals" burned one of the queen's frigates that was dispatched to collect taxes from the colonies...not sure what happened to the sailors but folklore has it that the rhode islanders, after giving them a good scare...took them to the nearest pub and soon the redcoats acclimated to their new home.
so enjoy your homeland and stop off at a random pub...perhaps you'll stay too.

Check out Marconi Beach in Wellfleet on your way to Provincetown. Its the location where Marconi successfully completed the first transatlantic wireless communication between the U.S. and England in 1903. The station is in ruins now by still cool.
