As I said in my blog post the day before yesterday, the vocals for Hey You on the first show were totally different. When the opening line started, Kevin and I just looked at each other wondering who on earth was singin.
I've just listened to the YouTube clip and it really does sound like a certain Pink Floyd singer. I spoke to Dave K about this last night before the show and he said it WAS Robbie and would ask him if he had done anythign different. Dave just sent me the following message:
"I asked Robbie about this yesterday (and it's DEFINITELY Robbie by the way!!!!), and he told me that he'd heard the original version earlier that day... and just tried to sound a little more like that!!!! (Yes, these singers really are that good!!!!)... There's also been a certain amount of ummm... partying recently, so I think there's probably added an extra roughness in there too!!!! :0))"
I have to say that it does sound like Mr Gilmour to me. Rehersal for London??

Surely that's Gilmour!? It's spot on... hats of to Robbie if it is him. Must admit had my reservations about Robbie to start with but maybe he's proving me wrong.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the show at the 02 on the 14th.
Great blog by the way.
Cheers, Dan
Thanks Dan and Stuart,
ReplyDeleteWould be great to meet up and say Hi at one of the London pre show meet ups if you can make it Dan ?
Hats off to Robbie. Sounds pretty damn close to BFD. :-)

Wow, I see what you mean by what you said! But there's already been moments in the songs (for me) when I felt like his phrasing was already so spot on it gave me chills! It's really the feel which Robbie has which made it clear he was the one, but techincally he CAN sound just like David if that were the goal, because he IS that good.
ReplyDeleteI'm reporting your friend to the Internet Police for exclaimation point abuse, lol. (Just kidding!!!)
Julie :)
That is my boy! He is an amazing mimick and you guys have no idea what he is capable of with that voice...country, soulful R&B, jazz standards etc..
ReplyDeleteI have to say he is amazing!!

Heard it last Saturday in Parken and it was a spot on imitation. Flawless.
