Wendy headed back to her house mid-morning while Kami and I decided to stay downtown so we could meet up with Kim and Joe and hang out with them for the day.
We headed to the Wells Street art fair in Old Town first, since we couldn't get hold of Kim on the phone. The fair stretched along Wells Street and had art and craft stalls along with places to eat and drink. Some displays were fascinating—others not as much, but there was a good ratio of one to the other. The street itself had its collection of fascinating shops and restaurants. It was scorching hot, though, so Kami did her best to stick to the shade and keep moving! We decided to get some milkshakes from a boutique candy maker and chocolatier shop—Kilwins. I had a cherry whilst Kami had salted caramel.
We managed to speak to Kim around 1 P.M. when she finally woke up and arranged to meet up with them for lunch at Portillos, a local chain that did hot dogs and Italian food. We all had lunch around 2:30. I was hoping to see Eric, Adam, and Jen, too but they didn’t make it out of bed till 6 P.M.!
Kami and I walked over to Millennium Park to hang out while Kim, Joe, and the others headed over to the Sears tower. We chilled just in the shade of the trees across the way from The Bean and people-watched. Kim and Joe were going to meet up with us at the park in a hour or so, but they took longer than expected, so Kami and I got the train back to Wendy’s house at 6:30. It was great to see Kim and Joe for lunch. I just wish we had more time to hang out with them—more than we did. Hopefully we can do this in Philadelphia!
Wendy’s husband Chris picked us up from the train station, and we got back just in time to say goodnight to Cal and Zoe before they headed off to bed.
